Trinity River Corridor
Economic Development
Connecting people and business to the Trinity River Corridor in a different way is a long time dream that is coming true all along the 10,000 acres or 20 miles of the Trinity River Corridor Project. It is true in the case of the Trinity River Audubon Center and in terms of transportation projects such as the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge being built alongside Continental Avenue Bridge, opening in 2011, and it can be seen at the Trinity Overlook Park, built in 2008 at the corner of Commerce Street and Beckley Avenue. This small park was made possible through a grant by The Trust for Public Land.
A new Trinity River Corridor is being shaped through the five major components of the project. This is occurring in monumental ways as is exemplified by the new steel bridge across the river, and in smaller efforts, the brightly painted buildings and the new sculpture in West Dallas. The idea is to join together and create a world-class greenway.
In October of 2009, the Dallas CityDesign Studio was formed through a grant to the City from the Trinity Trust Foundation, funded by a generous gift from Deedie and Rusty Rose. The focus of the studio is to highlight the neighborhoods and development along the Trinity River. The more the world changes around us, the more urgent it becomes to understand where we came from, our roots, and what changes and innovations we need to embrace to make every neighborhood in the City more livable for this generation and the next.
